Men and Women
House of Charity

Intake: You must be on GA or SSI, referred by a Hennepin County Worker, financial worker, social worker or other sort of counselor.
Remarks: The House of Charity is a structured housing program for people with special needs or who are vulnerable. There is no set limit for how long you can stay there; that depends on what your situation is.
Remarks: Also provides a day shelter for night shift workers. For sober adults who are working any shift. Cost is $3/day. People staying at the day shelter must begin to save money for permanent housing or into transitional housing. They would be eligible to move into transitional housing at the House of Charity.
Salvation Army Harbor Light Center

Light House Program
Remarks: 20 beds are available for men who have begun working full time and don’t have enough money for an apartment. They can stay for up to 45 days, but must save a portion of their wages toward the costs of moving into their own apartment and work with a counselor. Open for men only.
Special Needs Floor
Remarks: 46 beds for men and 26 beds for women are available for men and women with medical problems, who are emotionally upset, and/or who need special attention.
Sally’s Place
Remarks: A special area for women who have been drinking but are not drunk enough for Detox.
Our Savior’s Shelter

Provides: 34 beds for men and 6 beds for women are available for 30 days. Some extensions are possible. Breakfast, showers, and supper are available.
Remarks: Available beds are assigned on a first-come – first served basis. Sign up Monday through Friday, 2-7pm
Simpson Shelter

Hours: 7pm-7am
Provides: 40 beds available for stays of up to 30 days. Two meals a day are served to guests and showers and laundry are available. A health clinic is also available once weekly.
Remarks: Eligibility is a draw on the last day of the month or on Fridays. Women can come directly to the Simpson to sign up for one-night referrals. On other nights, men should go through the lottery process at St. Stephens shelter for one-night referrals. Simpson have a savings program which allows guests to stay at the shelter for more than 30 days if they are saving 40% of their earnings toward housing and have pay stubs to verify employment.

Hennepin County Secure Waiting Area

Remarks: Single men without children who are not eligible for county shelter may stay overnight in a secure waiting area. This is open 7 days a week from 5pm-7:30am. A snack is served in the evening. Restrooms and showers are available. Overflow space when the 100 Currie site is full can be found at 519 Portland Avenue.
Love Power Shelter

Remarks: Love Power Shelter offers 25 beds for sober men. All intake will be done at St. Stephen’s, but the shelter is located elsewhere. Priority is given to workers willing to save money and attend classes/discussion groups as part of the “Pilot Program.” Thos in the Pilot Program will be given an extended stay and be eligible for weekend activities and other support. Others can win a bed for 30 days through St. Stephens’s nightly lottery (6-7pm).
St. Stephen’s Shelter

Hours: 6pm-7am.
Remarks: 35 beds available for stays up to 30 days. Five beds are reserved for one night stays. Available beds are assigned by lottery at 7pm. People who work late and have a 30-day spot can come to shelter late. If you are working and cannot be present for the 7pm drawing, you must have a supervisor call the lottery and get an extended stay by joining the Savings Program, where guests save %40 of their income toward permanent housing.
Services: Breakfast, showers, weekend meals, and laundry are available to guests. Regular medical services are offered, Hennepin County Access workers make regular visits and staff members speak Spanish.

Remarks: The focus of this shelter is on families with children. The majority of referrals are by Hennepin County, but a county referral is not required.
Services: Three meals, private rooms with bathroom and shower, free laundry facilities are available. Assistance from Minneapolis Public Schools, medical clinic, Legal Aid, Economic Assistance, and Harriet Tubman Center, Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, Rapid Exit and Parents In Community Action are also available, as well as services from 20 other agencies.

Mary’s Place

Intake Hours: Monday through Thursday 10-11am and 1:30-3:00pm. Your entire family must go to Sharing and Caring Hands (525 N 7th St.) to apply for shelter at Mary’s Place.
Provides: Shelter for up to 30 days for families with children. Operated by Sharing and Caring Hands.
St. Anne’s Place

Remarks: Up to 40 beds are available fro homeless families (women and children only; no men.), who have no boys over 12. families are referred through Hennepin County Emergency Assistance.
Youth
The Archdale

Remarks: Has 30 units of permanents rental housing for youth ages 16-20. there are also 8 sites/apartments for homeless youth. Intake is done by the Bridge for Runaway Youth, who could also make referrals to emergency shelter for youth.
The Bridge

Remarks: Space for 14 young men and women for stays of 2-5 days. Call to see if there is space available.
Services: Outreach and aftercare services; family counseling, (which is free if you live in Hennepin County); parent support groups.
First Response

Phone: 612-521-3056 (24hrs). To report suspected child abuse call 348-3552 during regular hours or to report abuse of adults call: 348-8526 during regular hours; otherwise call the above 24hr number.
Remarks: Can provide a referral/voucher to safe shelter. can also facilitate return to parents; child abuse interventions. They will contact parents before a referral is made, and that referral could be to other relatives with parent’s approval.

Provides: Overnight shelter and transitional housing for youth ages 15-20. 10 beds are available in south Minneapolis, 10 more are in North Minneapolis for ages 15-20. Clothing, case management, referral to services, legal assistance, and limited job & computer training. Clients must go through a life skills program.
