Mother’s Empowerment Center
The Mother’s Empowerment Center (MEC) is partner program with Good in the ‘Hood. In a time when domestic violence is on the rise, MEC offers practical help, hope and emotional support for single mothers who have been victims of domestic abuse. In addition, the MEC offers computer lab for online studies, monthly grocery and personal care subsidy incentive programs and child care for the mothers as they concentrate on their education and online studies. Finally, each week family centered recreational events and connectional opportunities are provided as a means of encouraging emotional support and well-being.
Mission
Support single mothers, who have suffered domestic abuse, to advance educationally, financially and socially.
Degree Completion Assistance
We provide resources that assist women to start or remain in school or move from part time to full time students to obtain their GED, Diploma, Associates or Bachelors Degree’s.
Career Development Planning
Assistance is available to help apply for full time or part time employment that work with family and class schedules. This includes working one-on-one with a mentor to plan and implement short and long term goals. Additional assistance available in areas that help to achieve a safe and secure home and conducive lifestyle that allows participants to complete their educational goals.
Skills Training
In addition to monthly workshops, we help families connect with resources in their communities so they can build relationships and establish networks that support their role as parents and help participants become active members of their communities.
