Food in the ‘Hood

Getting enough to eat is a problem for the 15% of US households facing food insecurity. As if that weren’t bad enough, food insecurity with households that have children is even significantly higher at nearly 21%. Through the Food in the ‘Hood program, client-choice food shelves and hot meal programs are operated in Bloomington and North Minneapolis. This program serves 2,500 individuals each month.  Our goal is for each registered family to receive high quality essential grocery items, a delicious hot meal, health and nutritional support, advocacy, the “Good News” and a personal touch of kindness from our amazing team of difference-makers.

HOW DOES THIS PROGRAM WORK?

It’s really easy. Community members may visit our food pantry during our open hours (see below). Everyone is welcome. No appointment is necessary.

DO I NEED SPECIAL SKILLS TO VOLUNTEER?

All you need is a positive can-do attitude. Volunteers can help in a number of ways including food prep, set up, administrative, greeting guests, handling supplies, preparing meals, serving food, clean or help with our children’s programming. If you have a willing heart we have a place for you. We have 2 primary shifts available at both our Bloomington and north Minneapolis sites:

First Shift: 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Bloomington) or 10:30 pm – 1:00 pm (North Minneapolis)

Second Shift: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm (Bloomington) or 4:00 pm – 8:30 pm (North Minneapolis)

Serving together always provides a great time for connecting with others and a wonderful way to give back to the community in a meaningful manner. We need and welcome your involvement. Please consider joining us today! For more information, please contact Jamie at 612-440-SHOE (7463).
